GENESIS CENTER
A Place for Worship and Growth
WELCOME TO THE GENESIS CENTER
COMMUNITY CENTERED
Our desire is to welcome community-related, service-oriented, non-profit, and educational activities to share our Center. Primary use of the Genesis Center is for Genesis scheduled activities. Consideration will be given based on a written application for use.
THE GENESIS HISTORY & VISION
Genesis began in a movie theater in 2005, with a core group of about 25 adults led by Norm and Brenda Byers. The movie theater provided a venue to meet people of Petoskey in a neutral place while sharing the truth of the Bible and the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Many times when meeting in the theater the question would be asked, “So when are you going to build a church?” And the answer was:
“The church is not a building, but the church is the people of God on a mission!” Our growing congregation then moved to Petoskey High School and had an average weekly attendance of 250 worshipers. Thank you, God!
In a desire to imitate Christ, our leadership made a commitment to plant new churches before constructing a building of our own. In 2010, 30 adults from Genesis Petoskey joined the team led by Jamie and Kristie Woodall and launched Genesis Boyne City. Then in 2015, Will and Holly Henagan led another team to plant Genesis Harbor Springs.
We still believe the church is not a building but the church can use a building to further its mission. Ultimately, there was a growing desire to establish a permanent site for Genesis Petoskey.
We initially pursued “redeeming” or repurposing an existing facility, however this option presented many challenges. In 2013, a parcel of land on Northmen Drive was purchased. (The property is located adjacent to the Petoskey Public School’s main campus and near the new sports stadiums.) After another round of considering other repurposing opportunities in early 2016, the elder team voted unanimously to move forward with construction of a new building on the land on Northmen Drive.
THE GENESIS CENTER COMMUNITY USE
The construction of the 16,000 square foot Genesis Center was completed in August 2018. The Genesis Center is comprised of a large Gathering Space that can seat up to 600 people which can be used by the community for weddings, performances, or if chairs are stored, large group activities. There is a children’s wing with four large classrooms and a nursery. In addition, there are two large youth rooms that can be used for medium sized meetings or activities. The Genesis Church Office with attached conference room, doubles as a “living room” space for small group meetings.
Our desire is to welcome community-related, service-oriented, non-profit, and educational activities to share our Center. Primary use of the Genesis Center is for Genesis scheduled activities. Consideration will be given based on a written application for use.
In addition to taking into account the availability of the facility, all requests will be evaluated based upon alignment, and not contrary to, the mission of Genesis Church.
It is neither the intent nor purpose of Genesis to realize a profit when allowing the use of the Genesis Center. However, there are certain expenses and costs that are incurred (such as cleaning services, security, heat, electricity, water, gas, and the general maintenance of the building) which justify a fee. Therefore, a fee schedule for the use of various areas of the building is necessary.
